debra
whitford as "michelle"
fixNATION
is Debra's first film
appearance. Her previous performing experience was dancing in
concerts whilst growing up. While most of the girls in her dance
class dreamed of being ballerinas, Debra thought the excitement
of Broadway-style extravaganzas was more to her liking and considers
many of the stars from the Golden era of Hollywood musicals,
in particular Ann Miller, as a major influence during her childhood.
Since giving up dancing Debra has missed the rush of excitement
that you get from performing in front of an audience.
Despite a life-long interest
in acting, Debra's only other foray into acting classes was a
short-lived stint at St. Martin's Youth Theatre. Although she believes that on the one hand
she put off her interest in acting for too long she feels that
in many ways the timing has been perfect. Since beginning Acting Up at the House drama classes she has noticed changes
in herself such as increased confidence and a renewed love of
life that can only come from being true to yourself and following
your dreams. She looks forward to each class and all that she
can learn not only from her teacher, Sally, but also from her
classmates with their own stage and life experiences. 2003 was
one for firsts, with Debra also making her debut stage appearance
as an actor in Chasing Pegasus (A Play in Ten Chords),
in the role of "Margaret", which she thoroughly enjoyed.
